Altitude impacts body size but not age in the Asia Minor Thin-toed Gecko (<i>Mediodactylus heterocercus</i>)

چکیده
Age and size-related life-history traits of animals are influenced by a variety factors. In connection with climate, the effect altitude on demographic parameters may differ among different populations same species. present study, we analyzed how body size longevity Asia Minor Thin-toed Gecko (Mediodactylus heterocercus (Blanford, 1874)) vary along an elevational gradient in Turkey. For this purpose, total 138 specimens species (52 males, 75 females, 11 juveniles) from were analyzed. Populations at intermediate had shorter lifespans compared those low high altitudes (marginal environments). Furthermore, adult life expectancy (ESP), which indicates expected lifespan individuals having reached sexual maturity, was higher high-altitude (ESP: 6.59 years) than intermediate-altitude 5.40 low-altitude 6.01 years). The results study suggest that size, but not age, Geckos increases altitude.

Classic theories on the evolution of senescence make the simplifying assumption that all offspring are of equal quality, so that demographic senescence only manifests through declining rates of survival or fecundity. However, there is now evidence that, in addition to declining rates of survival and fecundity, many organisms are subject to age-related declines in the quality of offspring produc...
متن کاملBody Size Correlates with Fertilization Success but not Gonad Size in Grass Goby Territorial Males
In fish species with alternative male mating tactics, sperm competition typically occurs when small males that are unsuccessful in direct contests steal fertilization opportunities from large dominant males. In the grass goby Zosterisessor ophiocephalus, large territorial males defend and court females from nest sites, while small sneaker males obtain matings by sneaking into nests. Parentage a...

Body size–age relationships may have important implications for the evolution and maintenance of alternative mating tactics, but these relationships remain largely unexplored in anuran amphibians (frogs and toads). In a single territorial anuran species, smaller noncalling ‘satellite’ males are younger than calling males. These results have led to the general assumption that such an age differe...

conclusions ramadan fasting resulted in weight loss even it was only a temporary effect, as the weight was quickly regained within one month after fasting. the catabolism catabolic state, which is related to protein loss, was not triggered during ramadan fasting. further research is needed to evaluate the effects of weight loss during ramadan fasting in healthy individuals. results by the 28th ...
